Haunted Houses in Tulsa | Scaring people

Haunted houses and Tulsa episode 16. I wanted to spend some time to talk about employees and specifically employee training. Uh, one of the key successes for a really good haunted houses and Tulsa is to have a crew of actors that really know how to scare or haunt. Um, and what I mean by that is not every actor is a haunter. Haunters are a unique group of people that get a real joy of doing this type of acting and they get a joy out of scaring people. It’s kind of a more dark, sadistic type of acting, but they really enjoy it and they really enjoy the interaction of the live plane that’s going on when the customers come on to enter into and sandy farms, one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa. And they really enjoy the interaction. Haunted Houses in Tulsa, and they, they, they come from all walks of life.

Um, we had some senior citizens that want to act. Uh, we had, we definitely had a lot of high school actors that wanted to come out and do it. Um, it was mostly boys and men, but we also had a couple of females that want to do it. Uh, one of them dropped out, so we had the other female that ended up staying. She’s, she stayed in the Midwest section of insanity farms. That’s the area when they first walk into it, after they buy their tickets, uh, with three other staff members in there, another actor’s, uh, we don’t feel like it’s safe enough to have a female actor out into our maze where we, where she’s by herself and we can’t control the situation. So, Haunted Houses in Tulsa, we had heard our midway and, and um, I think it worked out best for everyone. Um, and as far as the boys, they all wanted to hang out together.

Um, so we had a hard time separating them and making them understand that, you know, you always need to be in cost. You and you need to be in the area you’re supposed to be. These people are paying customers and they’re coming into our place expecting a really cool experience. And in order for us to be one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa and we really had to be on point every night, every single night was we, I wanted it to be our best night. Um, and I feel very strongly that my thoroughly training your employees on how to, how to, how to act and how to be professional at the same time. Haunted Houses in Tulsa, I think that really pays dividends in the long run, especially when we want and Sandia farms to be one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa.

So when we were looking for employees, uh, we first started with craigslist, Haunted Houses in Tulsa, and then we went out from there, a craigslist returned some and some of actors we didn’t get a very good response from it. Um, but we also had signs, road signs made like little yard signs that have sticks in them and we stuck them by the road that said, now hiring important sandy farms. Uh, I’d say our success rate on that wasn’t very good as well. We didn’t get many responses from that. Uh, we got better responses by actually trying to target some of the local high schools. Um, we started with union high school because they’re the closest bias and we got a lot of good response because we put an ad out for both Pumpkin town forums and insanity farms, one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa and we got quite a good response from that.

Um, but we really didn’t have a tremendously large group to pick from a, I think the very, I don’t think the pool of haunters and in Tulsa or is very large. Um, so, and there’s already several, several other haunted houses and Tulsa. So it was more of we needed to get people that wanted to do this and then we needed to train them on what we wanted them to do. These people were really eager to learn. They were really, they really wanted to be there and they were excited to do it. So it was really cool experience getting to train them and help them understand what our vision was at sandy farms. And, um, it was a really unique experience for me as a business owner to get to do.

Once we found our group of actors, we decided to bring them all in and do tryouts. Haunted Houses in Tulsa, we didn’t do it individually. We made every single one of them do it and we made every single one of them get up in front of a large group of, uh, everybody there. Uh, and we asked them to do their best to their best hot scare. Um, a lot of ’em were kind of timid, didn’t want to do it, but we had about four or five people that jumped up right away and said, yeah, Hey, I want to do it. And they hopped up, uh, you knew right away those people were probably going to be one of your best actors or actors. And we wanted them to, uh, we wanted to write that down and we want to note that. And by noting that we made sure we understood who are the most outgoing actors that we’re going to have and which positions best would fit them.

I’m not to say all of them were really good at acting, but like again, they were really eager to do it and they were the first to jump up. Um, and so you could kind of tell from the group or the group try out that the ones that were very last to do it, we’re going to have the hardest time. Um, it was going to be pretty difficult for them to really do some of the roles or at least the outgoing roles. But the great thing about sandy farms, one of the best haunted houses in Tulsa is that we have roles for everybody. I’m like one of our scarecrow, one of our scenes is a scarecrow alley and we have an actor inside of it and he’s standing up on a hay bale and there’s several other dummies that are in this alleyway is the customers walked by.

And the literally, the only thing he has to, has to do is take one step off the Hay Bale and get in front of the people when they’re walking by and it’s dark out. It really scares the heck out of people and it’s a really good scene and it doesn’t require much acting skills at all to be honest. Uh, so some of those more timid people, we found places for them, uh, just by doing the group interview, we knew that okay, some of these roles are not going to have so much interaction in between customers and the employee, but it’s a quick scare and the customer moves on. Some of those are kind of made for the more timid actors, but the ones that are really outgoing, the ones that know what they’re doing, we wanted them out in front, in the midway interacting with the customers if they walked into insanity farms, one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa once we did the group interview, Haunted Houses in Tulsa, we pretty much hired nearly everybody that came to it because we needed so many roles and so many zombies.

Uh, we wanted the four ds and Ami paint, bolded field, like the zombies were just taking over the whole farm. So we needed quiet quite a fuse. I’ll be actors. And that was definitely made for the high school boys because the whole night they got pelted by paint balls, so we needed somebody that could kind of take pain, uh, but they wore Kevlar suits. So I’m in the end, they didn’t feel too much pain, um, unless the air pressure on our tank got too high and then we had to crank it down. Uh, so the Zombie paintball is, we’re a great position for the high school boys. Um, and we also needed some older adults in the, in the haunt to, uh, we needed some sergeants that could kind of yellow at the customers as they came through the Zombie paintball. So those were great positions for some of the older actors because they didn’t have to move too far and they could kind of play that, that general sergeant role.

Um, so we had a lot of actually, um, ex navy guys that came in and did it and a lot of ex veterans that decided to come in and do it. So we put, we put them in the, one of the generals and the sergeants. In conclusion, I really want to emphasize the fact that in order to have one of the best haunted houses in Tulsa, you really need to have a well trained employees and you really need to train them on how to haunt your customers as they come through, how to scare your customers as they come through and how to do it in the right way. We’re both the customer and employees safe. Um, I think those are really important aspects of running one of the best haunted houses and Tulsa. And I think it helps improve the overall experience.
